Housing crisis: “There is a need for public intervention”
“We are headed for a social catastrophe if we do nothing today”declared the Minister Delegate in charge of Housing Patrice Vergriete. “There is the need for public intervention, which is what we are working on”he explained.“These are figures that resemble those of 2008. The solution that should not be taken is to do nothing”he added. “We will not regain the real estate dynamic that we had with rates at 1%. We have to be completely honest”nevertheless warned the new Minister of Housing.
Access to housing: We must “first restart construction”
“The question today is not that of APL (Personalized Housing Assistance)”, assured Patrice Vergriete, while the Abbé Pierre Foundation proposes to increase them by 10% to cope with the precariousness of low-income households due to inflation. Such an increase in APL is not “not on the table”evacuated the minister, preferring “enhancing the housing supply”.
“First restart construction”he added. “If we want to control rental prices, we need to have more offers” housing, he explained. “If you build more housing, it will put downward pressure on prices”according to him.
