(Vancouver) Vernon Adams orchestrated the winning run with 39 seconds remaining in the final quarter on Saturday, allowing the British Columbia Lions to win 41-37 against the Ottawa Redblacks.
The Lions (9-4) prevailed despite trailing for most of the second half.
Adams completed 26 of 37 passes for 325 yards. He threw three touchdown passes and had three interceptions.
The Lions’ Terry Williams returned a missed field goal with just over a minute left to cut the lead to 37-34.
Lucky Whitehead scored the game-winning touchdown when Adams spotted him in the back of the end zone with 15 seconds left.
Whitehead handed the ball to his mother in the stands, giving her a hug.
Rouge et Noir quarterback Dustin Crum scored three rushing touchdowns. He concluded his game with 18 of 29 completed passes, for 213 yards.
The Lions scored 23 of their 41 points in the fourth quarter, where the Rouge et Noir was shut out.
Ottawa (3-10) will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday.
The same day, the Lions will visit the Edmonton Elks.
