(Calgary) Airline WestJet announced on Friday that Austrian Airlines CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech would become its next big boss.
The Calgary-based company said Mr. von Hoensbroech will take office once the immigration process is complete, which is expected to happen by the end of the first quarter of 2022.
Mr. von Hoensbroech was appointed President and CEO of Austrian Airlines – which is part of the Lufthansa Group – in 2018.
WestJet Chairman of the Board Chris Burley said von Hoensbroech has helped Austrian Airlines refocus on its core business by cutting costs to face growing competition from ultra-low cost carriers.
WestJet’s chief executive officer has been acting on an interim basis by its chief financial officer, Harry Taylor, since Ed Sims retired earlier this year.
Mr. Taylor is expected to resume his duties as vice president finance and chief financial officer upon the arrival of Mr. von Hoensbroech.
