The town hall of Mennecy, in Essonne, has installed road signs with silhouettes of domestic animals in order to protect them from vehicles.

25 kilometers southeast of Paris, Mennecy (Essonne) is a town labelread lover of animals”. For almost a month, new road signs have appeared with silhouettes of domestic animals. “It will appeal to people and instinctively make them slow down”, says a motorist. The initiative is far from being anecdotal for Catherine, when five of her cats were crushed. “This initiative is great”she says.

A project funded by Île-de-France

All this was imagined by Lionel Garnier. “This whole part, over 150/200 meters, I keep picking up [des animaux tués, NDLR]”, he specifies. The municipal employee decided to act in the face of the tragedies. It’s a source of pride for this animal lover. In a small chalet, he took in seven cats, and he hopes to change mentalities with the new signs. The project was financed by the Île-de-France region.
