It is certainly the queen stage of this Vuelta 2023. Wednesday September 13, the 17th stage of the Tour of Spain connects Ribadesella/Ribeseya to Angliru and its terrible slopes. A non-category pass, this legendary climb in Asturias hurts your legs just looking at the profile: 13.1 kilometers at 9.4% including six kilometers at more than 10% and maximum slopes around 23%.
It should allow the race for final victory to settle between the three members of the Jumbo-Visma team. For the moment, Sepp Kuss still holds the leader’s red jersey but his lead over Jonas Vingegaard has disintegrated thanks to the Dane’s stage victory on Tuesday. With a lead of 29 seconds, can he keep his tunic at the summit of Angliru? Unless Primoz Roglic, third, invites himself to the party, he who has a 1’33 lead on the American. Juan Ayuso (UAE-Emirates), the first rider overall behind the Dutch team, is 4th, 2’33 behind Sepp Kuss.
