Édouard Philippe did not “no doubt” that a victory for Marine Le Pen in the next presidential election is “possible”. “No one should have any doubt that it is possible”, adds Emmanuel Macron’s former Prime Minister, Wednesday September 13 on France Inter, invited to react to comments by Gérald Darmanin. The Minister of the Interior believes that it is “fairly likely” that the leader of the National Rally accesses the Élysée in 2027.
The mayor of Le Havre explains. “Given the political moves of the National Rally, and given the political situation as I see it, it seems to me that this victory is indeed possible”, he says. However, this scenario is still political fiction, to hear it. “No one knows the circumstances of 2027. So it is stupid, in my opinion, to do surveys on what will happen in 2027 and it is premature to do tactics on 2027”he says.
As far as he is concerned, things are less vague. “I have a pretty clear idea, yes, of how things might go for me.”he says, without going so far as to explicitly declare himself a candidate.
