“We need a form of collective shock”. Invited on the M6 set, the Minister of National Education made several announcements concerning the fight against school bullying. Between a TV film and a documentary devoted to the subject, Gabriel Attal insisted that it was ““unbearable to think that hundreds of thousands of children are victims of school bullying every year.”
The minister assumed “his responsibility” to have “a faster reaction” and “much clearer sanctions”. “He It is better to have a light sanction sooner than a serious sanction which comes too late.”asserted the Minister of National Education. Without believing “that there is bad will on the part of men and women who work in education“the minister promised the future training of principal advisors of establishments, heads of establishments but also canteen staff in harassment.
A major survey must also be launched, with a self-assessment questionnaire submitted to the middle and high school students to detect “weak signals” of harassment. The minister also announced an upcoming visit “in the Nordic countries” where educational times are dedicated to these questions. Of the “empathy course” are offered in Finland and Denmark, which according to Gabriel Attal allow “learning to respect others”.
An interministerial plan expected by the end of the month
The minister said Tuesday evening that he would continue his work on the subject, between now and the presentation of an interministerial plan on harassment expected at the end of the month.
Last week, the suicide of a 15-year-old teenager in his home in Poissy (Yvelines) brought this subject back to the center of attention, in the middle of the start of the school year. This young person reported, at the end of last year, “repeated bullying and insults from several students”, according to the Minister of National Education who met his parents. Two investigations are open, one judicial and one administrative.
