Knee injury | Chiefs optimistic about Travis Kelce

(Kansas City) Tight end Travis Kelce has made progress in his rehabilitation after suffering a knee injury last week in practice.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid announced this Monday with a Kansas City-Jacksonville game on the horizon on Sunday.

Kelce wanted to face the Detroit Lions on Thursday. In light of a practice earlier that day, however, the organization preferred to leave it aside.

Deprived of a star target, Patrick Mahomes had to settle for 226 air yards and the Chiefs were defeated, 21-20.

Mahomes threw two touchdown passes, but he also threw an interception. It deflected from the hands of Kadarius Toney, who escaped some of the eight balls not controlled by the Chiefs receivers.

Brian Branch, a rookie, grabbed the interception and returned the ball 50 yards to the end zone.

“We all have to do better,” Reid said. That’s what you need to take away from it. We had ups and downs. We were in a position to win. We’re used to capitalizing, but that didn’t happen this time. »

Thursday at Arrowhead Stadium, in a box with his agents was Chris Jones of the Chiefs, third in the NFL with 15 1/2 sacks last year.

He is on the sidelines in negotiations for a new contract. Its four-year, $80 million pact ends in 2023.

“I don’t really have an update to offer,” Reid said. There is communication, which is a plus. »

The Jaguars started the season with a 31-21 victory over the Colts on Sunday in Indianapolis.
