The United Kingdom has just beaten a new record of contamination since the start of the pandemic with more than 88,000 cases in 24 hours. Faced with this outbreak, France will ask in particular from December 18 a compelling reason to travelers from the country.

Faced with the progression of the Omicron variant across the Channel, France is tightening the screws for travelers from the United Kingdom. They will have to present a compelling reason for traveling to France and a negative test within 24 hours. They will also have to isolate themselves for two days upon their arrival in France. At St Pancras Station in London, a traveler decided to anticipate by advancing her train ticket. “As soon as I heard about the restrictions, I told myself that it was not going to be doable. We are under stress, everything is changing all the time, I am exhausted”, she confides.

Added to this are the British measures already in force, such as negative tests on arrival and departure. At the Gare du Nord in Paris, a traveler denounces “a lot of paperwork”, even for people who have been vaccinated. And the restrictions are already having an impact on tourist establishments. In Méribel, where 40% of visitors are British, hotel cancellations keep coming.
