Double murder in Quebec | Daniel Lafond is formally accused

(Quebec) Daniel Lafond, 34, was formally charged Wednesday in the case of the double murder that occurred on December 8 in the Charlesbourg district, in Quebec.



Arrested last Friday by the Police Department of Quebec City (SPVQ), the defendant was charged in court with two counts for the unpremeditated murders of Stéphane Deschênes and Mario Anctil.

He also faces one count of starting an arson attack.

The two victims, 51, died of their injuries in hospital hours after being found unconscious in a residence in the 45e Street, where a fire had deliberately been started.

These were the third and fourth murders to occur in the territory served by the SPVQ in 2021.

Originally, Daniel Lafond was arrested for another case involving assault and forcible confinement. Actions which would have been committed in the days preceding the double murder. He therefore faces other charges in connection with this case.

The accused remains in custody and his case is expected to return to court shortly.
