The Garber Circuit released the entire 2022 schedule on Wednesday and as announced approximately three weeks earlier, the campaign will begin on the last Saturday in February. However, the Montreal team will be in action the next day to then find their supporters at the Olympic Stadium on March 5 by hosting the Philadelphia Union.
The Bleu-Blanc-Noir’s first duel at Stade Saputo will take place in the afternoon, on Saturday April 16. The Vancouver Whitecaps, the only Canadian team to advance to the playoffs in 2021, will be visiting for the occasion.
Defending MLS Cup champions New York City FC will be in Montreal on July 30.
New encounters
Each MLS club will play 34 games during the season ending October 9: that day, CF Montreal will visit Inter Miami CF. Like in previous years, he will play quite regularly abroad during the first weeks. Thus, a sequence of four games on enemy soil – including one at the NYCFC to start this series – is scheduled from March 12 to April 9.
In addition, from May 22 to June 25, the Quebec team will play four times in a row at Stade Saputo. During this series, there will be the first lifelong presences of Austin FC and Charlotte FC in the Quebec metropolis.
The North Carolina expansion team, which will join the Eastern Conference, will begin their MLS run on February 26, against DC United. 74,000 fans are expected for the event, which would set a new league record in terms of attendance.
Two encounters against rivals
As for the appointments with Toronto FC, they are set for July 16 and September 4, respectively in Montreal and BMO Field. Unlike 2021, more games against western clubs are on the schedule. This year, the CF had played only two games against rivals from this association, but this time, it will total six.
After the final regular campaign games scheduled for Oct. 9, MLS will hold their three-week playoff schedule, which culminates with the cup final on Nov. 5. Two weeks later the FIFA World Cup kicks off in Qatar.
Another date to remember is the All-Star Game on August 10, which will be held at Allianz Field, home of Minnesota United SC.
All CF Montreal duels will be broadcast on one of the TVA Sports channels.
