In the mountains or at the sea, it is essential to protect your head in order to avoid sunstroke, but that is not enough. Journalist and doctor Damien Mascret gives his advice to holidaymakers on the set of 12/13.

Are bobs or caps enough to avoid sunstroke? “No, that’s not enough. Until the beginning of the 20th century, it was believed that it was the direct impact of the sun on the head that was responsible for sunstroke. But no!”, replies journalist Damien Mascret, on the set of 12/13, Tuesday July 25. He explains : “We believed that because the first signs concern the brain: dizziness, headache, irritability. But there is also profuse perspiration of the whole body.

Cool the body

So what can you do to avoid heatstroke? The priority is to cool your body, so you have to get in the shade and, if possible, create a draft. “You also have to drink water, to rebuild sweat, because it’s the only way to evacuate body heat.”, advises the doctor. You can also put cold where a large artery passes, for example, on the carotid artery, in the neck.
