Faced with the spread of the Omicron variant, the Netherlands anticipate the closure of their schools before the Christmas holidays. For its part, Italy has tightened entry restrictions on its territory.
For the World Health Organization (WHO), the finding is clear: the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is now present everywhere. “Omicron is likely to be found in most countries, although it has not yet been detected. It is spreading at a rate that we have never seen with any other variant.“, said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO.
WHO therefore calls on all countries to react. This advice was followed by Italy. From Thursday, December 16, being vaccinated will no longer be enough to travel to our neighbors, even for Europeans. It will therefore be necessary to do an antigen test of less than 24 hours or a PCR test 48 hours before entering Italian soil. It is the first European country to take such measures. In the Netherlands, the government is also tightening the screw. After the closure of non-essential shops and bars in the evening, the Prime Minister announced the closure of primary schools from Friday, a week before the start of the Christmas holidays.
