Calling all: Noise barrier in Longueuil | Who should pay?

The City of Longueuil had already committed several years ago to building a noise barrier from its budget between Route 116 and a residential area, but faced with the explosion in the costs of its project since the pandemic, it is proposing a “local improvement tax” to residents of the borough of Saint-Hubert who will benefit directly from the wall in order to assume the difference between the 2018 estimate and the actual cost. Estimated bill for the 265 affected residents: up to $23,600 (or $36,300 spread over 20 years). Do you agree with Mayor Catherine Fournier’s proposal? Who should pay: affected residents or all residents of Longueuil?
