Turkey is affected by major fires, Wednesday, July 19. Forest fires have broken out in the west and south of the country, after the very hot weather recorded in Turkey in recent days. The region hit by the earthquake last January is particularly affected.
The heat wave continues to rage in Italy, where the average temperature was 41°C on Wednesday. These extreme heat will continue for the next few days, and the heat wave alert will be maintained. Hospitals fear an influx of sick people, especially the elderly, who are particularly vulnerable to the heat.
Spanish farmers face the heat wave
After a very dry winter and spring, Spain now has to deal with a scorching summer, and fruit growing is affected. The year promises to be catastrophic, for lack of satisfactory harvests. “The heat first harms the skin of the fruit. And then, when we cut the apples, we see that they are black inside“, explains Xavier Gorgues, Spanish farmer.
