Near Athens, several fires broke out in Greece, putting firefighters at risk. France provided support by sending two Canadairs.
On the morning of Wednesday July 19, the flames were still gaining ground in central Greece, with incessant outbreaks of fire, carried by winds at 60 km / h. A huge battle is engaged for the Greek firefighters, reinforced today by several European countries. Two French Canadairs arrived on site. The biggest fire, the most threatening also, took place on Tuesday July 18, about thirty kilometers northwest of Athens.
More and more fires
The firefighters, overwhelmed, are unable to prevent the advance of the flames. Several homes are burned. The Greek authorities have ordered the evacuation of several localities north of Athens. Roads have been blocked. The inhabitants note the helplessness of the firefighters, overwhelmed by the force of the fire. The day promises to be difficult, as a new wave of heat waves is expected in Greece and the outbreaks are increasing, especially further west, near Corinth.
