The beach at Parc Jean-Drapeau will be closed until further notice due to high bacteriological contamination, the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks announced on Wednesday evening.
The analysis of the samples taken on July 17 showed that the bathing waters of the beach did not comply with the bacteriological quality standards of the ministry. He therefore asks the public not to bathe there until a notice to the contrary has been issued.
This closure comes as the City of Montreal is to unveil the summer activities of Parc Jean-Drapeau on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, the ministry had also announced the closure of the Jules-Léger park beach in Saint-Anicet, the Lac Fortin beach in Saint-Victor, the beach at the Estacade outdoor center in Saint-Paul-de-l’Île-aux-Noix and the Quebec Lodge beach in Hatley.
Four beaches in the metropolis are part of the Environment-Beach Program of the Ministry of the Environment, that is to say that the bathing waters are regularly tested. In addition to the Parc Jean-Drapeau beach, there are two beaches in the Cap–Saint-Jacques nature park and the beach in the Bois-de-l’Île-Bizard nature park.
The bacteriological quality of bathing water, classified from excellent to polluted, can be found on the ministry’s website.
