An agreement in principle has been reached between the Government of Quebec and the Association of Provincial Police Officers of Quebec (APPQ) for the renewal of the collective agreement of some 5,700 patrol officers and investigators of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The details of this five-year agreement will remain confidential until it is ratified by the members.
Finance Minister Eric Girard, who announced the deal, says it aims to help attract and retain police officers, among other things.
For her part, the director general of the Sûreté du Québec, Johanne Beausoleil, predicts that new provisions in the employment contract will allow greater flexibility in order to maximize the performance of the police force and reduce compulsory overtime work.
