A 50-year-old from Estrie has been fighting for her life since Friday when she was allegedly seriously injured by her 38-year-old son, who was found at the scene of the crime.
“The paramedics found the victim with significant head injuries,” explained the Log Lieutenant Carl Pépin, of the Memphrémagog Police Board (RPM).
Stéphane Lennon was handcuffed shortly after by the police, he who was in the family home, located on Bob Road, in the small municipality of Austin, in the Eastern Townships.
It was a friend of the victim who found the 59-year-old woman unresponsive on the ground, when they had an appointment. Seeing that she had no answer at the door, she walked around the residence.
It was then that she discovered the victim and was able to call for help, around 4 p.m. last Friday. It is impossible to say how long ago the assault or what would have prompted the suspect to attack his mother.
However, the police quickly had “serious reasons” to arrest the victim’s son.
Still in critical condition
Stéphane Lennon appeared this weekend by videoconference to answer one count of aggravated assault, but the nature of the charges could be called upon to evolve given the condition of the victim. The 30-year-old remains detained.
The RPM requested the assistance of the Sûreté du Québec in this case, which dispatched a team to analyze the crime scene.
Monday afternoon, about 72 hours after the attack, there was still fear for the life of the victim, who is in critical condition.
Stéphane Lennon was “known” to the police, but his last indictment dated back to 2011.
He has a history of multiple thefts, assault, mischief, uttering threats, possession of narcotics, possession of burglary tools, property obtained by crime and false documents as well as fraud.
