It was the first French club to have reached such a level in the competition. But Rouen’s unexpected adventure in the Ice Hockey Champions League came to an end on Tuesday, December 14, after his home defeat against Tampere (0-4). The Dragons, however, had reasons to believe: they had already achieved the feat of winning a draw in the first leg (3-3), away.

This time, their opponents, more than favorites on paper, dominated the hostilities and Rouen could do nothing to counter them. If the Finns have shot on goal 52 times, the Rouen have only obtained 19 shots on their side. After resisting in the first half, they eventually gave in to the pressure put by Tampere. The Finns opened the scoring early in the second half, before doubling down two minutes later.

The Dragons, pushed by their public, gave everything in the third third to return to the score and even obtained several opportunities, without succeeding in materializing. The Finns then took advantage of the cage left empty by their opponents to score two new goals and ensure their qualification in the last four of the competition.

Tampere will return to Munich in the semifinals. The German club dominated Lukko Rauma. The second the semi-final will pit two Swedish teams, namely Rögle d’Angelholm (winner of Sparta Prague) and Frölunda (winner of Leksands).
