A person has been in police custody since the morning of Sunday, July 16, as part of the investigation opened by the Béthune prosecutor’s office for destruction or degradation by fire resulting in death. And this while two people died in the fire of a three-storey building on the night of Saturday July 15 to Sunday July 16 in Lens, reports France Bleu Nord.

The Béthune public prosecutor’s office confirms to France Bleu Nord that a tire surrounded by burning rags was found on the ground floor of the building, which burst into flames. The fire was contained early Sunday July 16, five people had to be taken to hospital. The bodies of a man and a woman were found in the rubble on the second floor. A total of 45 firefighters were mobilized.
