(Las Vegas) OJ Simpson is a free man.
The 74-year-old former football player and actor, acquitted of murder in California and convicted of armed robbery in Las Vegas, had a good demeanor and was released on parole effective 1er December, a day after a hearing before the Nevada parole board, said Kim Yoko Smith, a spokeswoman for the Nevada State Police, on Tuesday.
“Mr. Simpson is a completely free man now,” said Malcolm LaVergne, OJ Simpson’s lawyer in Las Vegas.
OJ Simpson declined to grant an interview immediately, his lawyer said, and Mr.e LaVergne declined to discuss his client’s plans, including whether he intended to stay in Nevada.
Before his release from prison on 1er October 2017, he told parole officials that he was planning to move to Florida.
Instead, he moved to a restricted community in Las Vegas where he plays golf and frequently uses Twitter to post his thoughts on college and professional sports, particularly soccer.
“Life is fine,” he told The Associated Press in an interview in June 2019.
OJ Simpson was convicted by a jury in Las Vegas in October 2008 and served nine years in prison for leading five men, two of whom were armed, in a September 2007 confrontation with two sporting collectibles dealers in a Las Vegas hotel-casino.
OJ Simpson insisted all he wanted was to recover personal memorabilia and items that were stolen from him after his acquittal in Los Angeles in the 1994 murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and his friend. Ronald Goldman.
He was originally scheduled for parole on February 9, but the parole board moved the date forward due to his good behavior.
