Not a reason to hurt yourself, we have already heard. Unfortunately, that’s not entirely true. And war, with all its cruelties, has been part of human daily life since the dawn of time. However, some glimmers of civility had emerged: without war becoming regulated as a sport, conventions would nevertheless make it possible to somewhat tame the violence of aggression. Obviously, compliance with these conventions is left to the goodwill of each individual. When the United States wants to supply Ukraine with cluster bombs, it throws overboard that remaining shred of humanity in the conduct of the war. We could then paraphrase the Donald Trump of the Charlottesville demonstrations: there are “bad people” on both sides!
Yes, this barbaric war must end and surely there are other more acceptable ways of driving a band of mobsters and their operetta commanders out of Ukraine.
