Four days after the well-felt call for a boycott by the CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal (CCMM), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Quebec (CCIQ) in turn suspended its advertisements on the Facebook social network.
“The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Quebec (CCIQ) announces today the temporary suspension of all its advertisements on Meta platforms, given the reaction of the web giant following the adoption of Bill C -18”, confirmed by email to Log its CEO, Steve Lavoie, on Tuesday.
The Young Chamber of Commerce of Quebec (JCCQ) made the same announcement a few minutes later.
“The JCCQ wishes to demonstrate its support to the Quebec and Canadian media through this decision and hopes that a solution will be quickly found in order to continue to ensure access to quality information,” wrote the organization on LinkedIn.
Last Thursday, The newspaper reported that the CCMM was calling for a boycott of Facebook. Yesterday, it was the turn of Metro, which owns Super C, Première Moisson, Adonis, Brunet and Jean Coutu, to also distance itself from the platform belonging to Meta.
Quebec embarks
At Log, Quebec Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Steeve Lavoie expressed concern about “the impact on Quebec and Canadian media of Meta’s decision.”
“We want the federal government and Meta to quickly find a solution to this impasse. This is necessary to ensure the accessibility of information,” he insisted.
