A mother has been indicted for murder, the Valenciennes prosecutor’s office announced on Tuesday July 11. She is suspected of having killed her two children aged five and 10 in Wargnies-le-Grand (Nord). According to the prosecution, the suspect “admitted having ended the life of her two children in a context of separation from the father of her second child, to whom she did not intend to entrust custody”. She was hospitalized after she “attempted to end his life”.
Friday, “the lifeless bodies of the two children” were discovered at the family home, the prosecution said in a statement. The children’s mother, who had custody of them, was taken into custody on Saturday. She explained that she had “administered drugs to her children to put them to sleep and drowned them in the bathtub of the family home”. The mother of the family, “whose first psychiatric expertise retained an alteration of discernment”was remanded in custody.
According to France 3, some 300 people took part in a white march on Monday in tribute to the two children in the village of Wargnies-le-Grand, in front of the nursery and primary schools where Gabriel and Océane were educated.
