Torrential rains ravaged the streets of Zaragoza, Spain, on Thursday July 6. The inhabitants are in shock after this violent episode.
In Zaragoza (Spain), cars drifted on Thursday July 6 in streets transformed into torrents. A man on the roof of his car is carried away by the current. A woman, clinging to her roof, tries to survive in the midst of the raging waves, before being rescued by firefighters. A dozen residents were airlifted, while a patient man, clinging to the branches of a tree.
Hailstorms in the Spanish Basque Country
Torrential rains have swept through northern Spain, turning the streets of Zaragoza into rivers and washing away everything in their path, in front of helpless residents. “It’s my car (…) the water pulled me back and made me cross the track”, says a man. In some neighborhoods, more than 100 L of water per m2 fell in less than an hour. In front of a supermarket, water gushes from all sides. The Spanish Basque Country has been hit by hailstorms. These increasingly frequent violent phenomena are linked to climate change.
