The REM open to the public on July 31

(Montreal) CDPQ Infra announced Friday that the Metropolitan Express Network (REM) will be open to the public between Brossard and Central Station on July 31.

The final stage of preparation prior to commissioning, known as the dry run, began on June 28 and CDPQ Infra reports that it will continue over the next few days. The teams will then be able to make the final adjustments.

Over the past 12 months, there has been complete electrification of the 16.6 kilometers of the South Shore branch, including the crossing of the Samuel-De Champlain bridge.

CDPQ Infra reports that the Rive-Sud branch of the REM will provide access to downtown Montreal in less than 18 minutes, from Brossard. The REM’s South Shore branch is made up of five stations.

The REM provides for the development of a total network of 26 stations which aims to link, over 67 kilometers, downtown Montreal, the South Shore, the West Island, the North Shore and Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau International Airport.

It is expected that the REM cars will be in service every day, 20 hours a day, and that they will be connected to the three main lines of the Montreal metro.
