Faced with the damage of recent days, during the riots which followed the death of Nahel, the Minister Delegate for Transport considers this Thursday that this is “totally unacceptable” and that “nothing” can “justify”, ” not even the pain of young Nahel’s death”.

“More than 20 officers were threatened or assaulted” in France during the urban violence which followed the death of Nahel, indicates the Minister Delegate in charge of Transport, Clément Beaune, Thursday July 6 on franceinfo. They have been “while they were rendering a public service”, he laments. Therefore, he is keen on their “pay homage”.

The Minister also takes stock of the damage. “Nearly 40 buses were set on fire, destroyed by criminal acts, there were two trams fully or partially attacked and there were around 200 bus shelters victims of stone throwing, acts of vandalism”, he lists. As for the quantification of this damage, it has not yet been decided, but it will reach “probably a few tens of millions of euros”he says.
“For transport, it is a heavy balance sheet”, he remarks. For him, “All of this is obviously totally unacceptable” And “Nothing” can’t “justify”, “not even the pain of the death of young Nahel, it has no relation”. “I fought to support our public officials, to take all the security measures, that’s why we had to interrupt buses and trams in the evening”, he welcomes. He points out that“we could not play with the safety of people and agents”neither “make buses or trams trophies for thugs”.
