Towards a return to calm. Urban violence experienced a sharp decline overnight from Monday July 3 to Tuesday July 4, with 72 people arrested, including 24 in Paris and its inner suburbs, and 24 buildings burned or degraded throughout the territory, according to a report released Tuesday by the Ministry of the Interior.

The ministry also recorded 159 vehicle fires and 202 fires on public roads (mainly garbage cans) during this seventh consecutive night of riots sparked by the death of young Nahel, 17, killed by a police officer during a a roadside check in Nanterre.
Four attacks on the premises of the national police, the gendarmerie and the municipal police have also been listed, according to the same source, which specifies that no member of the police force was injured. For the third consecutive night, 45,000 police and gendarmes were mobilized throughout France.
