Verstappen crushes the competition again

Starting in the lead, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) flew over the Austrian Grand Prix from start to finish on Sunday at Spielberg.

The Dutchman thus signed his seventh victory in nine races this season.

Verstappen was this time ahead of the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and the Mexican Sergio Perez (Red Bull), who rose from 15th to 3rd place to complete the podium on the Red Bull Ring. With his 2nd position, Leclerc obtained Ferrari’s best result this season.

For his part, Quebec driver Lance Stroll (Aston-Martin) finished 10th.

Already largely the leader before the arrival in the mountains of Styria, Verstappen, double defending champion, leaves with a stratospheric lead of 81 points over his closest rival, his teammate Pérez. Winner for the 42nd time in F1, at 25, “Mad Max” is heading briskly towards a third world title in a row.

He became the record holder for victories in the Austrian Grand Prix, with four successes, ahead of Frenchman Alain Prost. Verstappen also won his fifth victory on this circuit since he had also won the Styrian Grand Prix there, raced in 2021 in addition to the Austrian GP to compensate for cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari) and Lando Norris (McLaren) finished 4th and 5th.
