Faced with rising energy prices and inflation, the government promised financial assistance to the most affected households. The first checks have finally arrived in mailboxes, and their payments will be spread over several weeks.
As the government had announced, the first energy checks arrived in letterboxes on Monday, December 13. A good surprise for those who benefit from it. Like this retiree, who has just been informed that he will soon receive a second energy check of 100 euros: “I had one this year, then I received an email telling me that I had an additional energy check of 100 euros”. A pleasant surprise that he should receive on December 22, given the 15% increase announced for his energy supplier for 2022.
Another help from the government to cope with the exploding cost of living: inflation compensation. Anyone who earns less than 2,000 euros net per month can benefit from a bonus of 100 euros. A welcome help, but which divides, as in the streets of Paris this morning: “It’s good, especially around the holidays”, estimates a passer-by. While a lady puts this bonus into perspective: “It’s a drop of water in an ocean”. The first served will be scholarship students by transfer from CROUS, will then follow private sector employees at the end of the month via their employers, and finally retirees in February 2022. In total, 38 million people will benefit from the inflation allowance.
