It’s confirmed, Corey Perry will play with Connor Bedard

A day after acquiring veteran Corey Perry from the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Chicago Blackhawks offered him a one-year contract for $4 million on Friday.

The 38-year-old striker had already begun negotiations with his new team on Thursday, general manager Kyle Davidson said. The latter said he was happy to be able to count on the experience of the former Stanley Cup winner.

In Chicago, Perry is expected to play a role similar to the one he held in Montreal. The Ontarian will mentor the organization’s young players, including promising Connor Bedard, whom the Hawks claimed first in the draft this week.

Perry has spent the past two seasons in Tampa. In 2022-23, he had 25 points in 81 games but maintained a -28 rating. Loving to disturb and taunt the opponent, he also spent 95 minutes in the penalty box.

In 1,257 regular season games, the former Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens and Lightning player scored 883 points. He also has 124 points in 196 playoff games.
