The Blues come out of the silence. This Friday, June 30, a group of players from the French football team posted a message on the players’ social networks. Part of the Blues locker room is thus calling for a return to calm after the violence that has erupted in recent days in the country, after the death of Nahel, in Nanterre.
“Like all French people, we were marked and shocked by the brutal death of young Nahel. Since this tragic event, we have witnessed the expression of popular anger whose substance we understand, but whose form we cannot endorse. “explain the players, before recalling: “It is your property that you are destroying, your neighborhoods, your cities, your places of fulfillment and proximity.”
Mbappé had already reacted
In their press release, the players recall that several of them are from “from working-class neighborhoods, these feelings of pain and sadness, we also share them. But to this suffering is added that of assisting powerless in a real process of self-destruction. Violence does not solve anything, even less when it is inevitably and tirelessly turns against those who express it, their families, relatives and neighbors. It is your property that you are destroying.”
When Nahel’s death was announced, Jules Koundé, Mike Maignan and Kylian Mbappé had already reacted personally on their social networks. Since then, the anger has exploded and the Blues recall that it “there are other peaceful and constructive ways to express yourself”before concluding : “The time of violence must end to give way to that of mourning, dialogue and reconstruction.”
