(Longueuil) A motorcyclist lost his life Thursday evening in Longueuil, Montérégie, when he was hit by a motorist. A third vehicle, whose driver was arrested, is believed to have played a role in the fatal collision.
The accident occurred around 8:40 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Cousineau and Mountainview boulevards, in the borough of Saint-Hubert, said the Longueuil agglomeration police department (SPAL).
The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was quickly taken to a hospital in critical condition. However, he was pronounced dead a few hours after the accident, at the hospital.
The driver of the car, also in his 40s, was treated for shock.
The police investigation is still ongoing to clarify all the circumstances that led to the collision, but the SPAL has obtained enough preliminary indications to confirm that a third vehicle was on the scene at the time of the events.
“It was through the first findings and the elements obtained at the scene that we had the information that a third individual, therefore in a third vehicle, was involved in the seconds preceding the accident”, revealed Friday morning the public relations officer at SPAL, François Boucher.
This third man, in his thirties, was arrested. He was met by investigators and was later released. He could face reckless driving charges, SPAL said.
A security perimeter was set up to allow forensic identification technicians, reconstructionists and SPAL investigators to analyze the scene, but the traffic obstructions had been lifted on Friday morning.
“The specific circumstances leading to this accident have yet to be determined,” concluded Officer Boucher.
