The French championship is about to welcome a new star. The arrival of the South African third line Siya Kolisi was indeed formalized by Racing 92, Friday, June 30. At 32, the emblematic captain of the Springboks has signed a three-year contract with the Hauts-de-Seine club, recent semi-finalist of the Top 14.
A charismatic player, Kolisi is a true legend of international rugby. With his 75 caps with the South African selection, he became, in 2018, the first black captain, a fact that goes far beyond the symbol in a country with a history marked by apartheid. This child from the townships of Port Elizabeth led the Springboks to their third world title in 2019 in Japan.
An arrival after the World Cup
Kolisi is expected to play the World Cup in France in the fall (September 8-October 28), despite a knee injury suffered with his former club Sharks in late April. If he recovers in time – he recently showed up “confident” on this subject – he will join Racing at the end of the competition.
His arrival is part of a major overhaul of the workforce, since eight other players have been announced by the sky and white club. Among them are the English international back Henry Arundell, the Fijian international center Josua Tuisova or the right pillar Thomas Laclayat, selected to prepare for the World Cup with the Blues. They will be coached by former England coach Stuart Lancaster.
