The Minister of National Education calls Thursday, June 29 the rectors of academy to the “vigilance“, after the urban violence that occurred in several cities in France following the death of young Nahel in Nanterre on Tuesday, franceinfo learned from the ministry. The rectors were brought together Thursday evening by the minister to “an update and to anticipate urban violence that could occur in the coming hours“.
Pap Ndiaye asked them to anticipate possible violence by carrying out four actions: alerting school heads, including at night, particularly in the most sensitive areas; the permanent link with the prefectures to transmit information in real time; vigilance over their buildings and access security; the continued mobilization of ministerial services. These arrangements will be made in conjunction with the prefectures.to ensure student safety“, specifies the ministry.

Pap Ndiaye also asked to mobilize “in the accompaniment of the teams, to support the principals and the heads of establishments affected by the violence, in particular those who have been victims of violence targeting the staff“. With regard to the most affected schools, the Minister also asked them to check that educational continuity is well ensured, in conjunction with the communities.
Cancellation of the end of year celebrations in the Créteil academy?
Faced with the violence, the rector of the Créteil academy also called on the heads of establishments to postpone or cancel the planned end-of-school-year celebrations. Several establishments and schools of the academy were the subject of degradations, intrusions even attempts of fire.
“Regarding any festivities that would have been planned during the coming evenings, such as the end-of-year balls, I invite you to proceed with their postponement or cancellation when possible.“, wrote the rector in a letter that franceinfo was able to consult. “In any case, you will ensure that the festivities do not extend beyond 10 p.m. in the neighborhoods already affected or sensitive.“, says the rector.
In the event of intrusions or damage, the rectorate invites the heads of establishments to “immediately alert the police and the directors of departmental services“.
