Our seniors have been hard hit for three years, by a devastating pandemic, stifling inflation and a relentless housing crisis. The most vulnerable try as best they can to cling to a more than precarious socio-economic net. And that net is crumbling, as the community organizations that largely support it are at their wit’s end.
When is the lifeline!
At the Maison du Père, we are forced to note that precariousness is increasingly reserved for the elderly. In 2022, 82% of the requests recorded by our homelessness prevention service concerned people aged 50 and over, on the verge of losing their housing. People who have never experienced homelessness and who find themselves there for lack of support and referral to a resource adapted to their reality.
The absence of caregivers, health problems, low retirement income and the resurgence of “renovictions” are all aggravating factors that explain this new reality.
These people find themselves psychologically, financially, socially and sometimes physically deprived in the face of this trauma.

1er July is fast approaching… We know that we will meet the eyes washed by the despair of men whose faces we have never seen… Our prevention and referral services will be overloaded…
The population is aging, and the homeless one too… and even more rapidly.
