Zero pollution objective for the marina of Hyères in the Var. A system of pumps to evacuate dirty water from the boats has just been installed on all the pontoons. A device that comes in addition to others already in place for a few months. #TheyHaveTheSolution
The gesture is simple, free and ecological. From now on, boaters who come to moor in the marina of Hyères have easy access to pumps allowing them to evacuate their waste water. “Since last month, we have put in place a gray water-black water recovery system. You can now fill up with gasoline and empty your gray water-black water on each island, without having to make several maneuvers“, explains Christophe Polycarpe, head of the operational center of the Ports of Hyères. 300 liters per minute are thus sucked up and evacuated directly to the nearest wastewater treatment plant.
A brigade of depolluting robots
A new device which comes in addition to the measures already taken by the port authorities to fight against pollution. Like depolluting robots, which have been operating since last September in the port of Saint-Pierre, and which have largely demonstrated their effectiveness: “It’s a rather favorable balance, already because it’s very energy efficient, it works with a simple 220V socket. From time to time, when there are oil spills, we have to deploy anti-pollution booms, and with the surface current that they create, the robots make it possible to suck up the pollution that has been contained by the dam. In a few hours, they suck up everything that is on the surface and it cleans the body of water“, welcomes Cédric L’Hénaff, the director of the Ports of Hyères.
Five new depolluting robots will arrive by 2024, with the port’s objective of obtaining the “Clean Port” label in two years, already awarded to twenty-two Var ports, and more than a hundred throughout the country.
