The regional health agency announced Monday, June 26 the night closure all summer of the three emergency services of hospitals in Mayenne, in a press release consulted by France Bleu Mayenne. Concretely, this means that patients will have to call 15 before accessing the emergency room from 6:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. They will not be able to go there spontaneously.
The emergency services of the three hospitals in the department (Laval, Mayenne, Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne) will be closed every night in the summer from July 3, 2023. The ARS invokes the lack of doctors. The three services will only be open in case “vital emergencies” explains the Pays-de-la-Loire regional health agency.
“Our organizations do not hold on to much”
For several months, the ARS and the management of the three hospitals have considered alternating closures during the summer so that there is always an emergency service open in the department. But the scenario was abandoned according to Eric Alban-Giroux, director of the Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne hospital: “We had planned a territorial organization that held together, but everything was shattered with a doctor who decided to manage his system differently. Our organizations do not hold much together”confides the director to France Bleu Mayenne.
The 306,000 inhabitants of Mayenne will therefore not be able to go to the emergency room spontaneously all this summer. “For many years, access to emergencies at the public hospital has been the only means of access to care for many people in Mayenne who do not have a doctor”recalls Maxime Lebigot, president of the association of citizens against medical deserts (ACCDM).
This summer, the Mayenne is hosting many events. “There are many festivals in Mayenne, such as the V and B Fest [120 000 spectateurs sur trois jours]there are also Ligue 2 matches at the Francis Le Basser stadium, so you won’t have to be sick”, says Maxime Lebigot. His association plans to seize the public prosecutor for “endangering the lives of others”. The Mayenne department is the third largest medical desert in France.
