The Minister of Health announced a few days ago that there will be service interruptions in several places. And the situation is likely to be particularly difficult in the west of Montreal.
The Lakeshore General Hospital’s emergency room is constantly under pressure.
“Today, we start the day at 145%. It can go up to 160-190,” said Deputy Head of Emergency at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Dr. Robin Nathanson, to TVA Nouvelles.
A patient told our reporter that she had been waiting to be moved upstairs for 3 days. The 187 beds available for hospitalization are no longer enough.
A few months ago, this CIUSSS was the first to call on an IPS nurse who takes care of many patients and relieves the workload of doctors in the emergency room.
In an attempt to reduce the pressure on the emergency rooms of the Lakeshore hospital, we created a rapid access clinic, where about thirty patients are seen every day.
This clinic operates from Monday to Friday, with a small team of 5 people including 3 nurses and allows patients to be quickly discharged from the emergency room with the assurance of being taken care of the next day by a medical team.
It is estimated that about 10% of the 39,000 patients who arrive at the emergency room have conditions to be redirected to this clinic.
