Smoke from the gigantic fires that have ravaged part of Canada has crossed the Atlantic and is expected to reach Europe and France in the coming days, according to simulations from the European center for medium-range weather forecasts, Friday June 23. The fumes could reach the coasts of Western Europe on Monday June 26, according to Mark Parrington, scientific director at the Copernicus Service for Atmospheric Monitoring.

In Canada, more than 4.6 million hectares of forest have been devoured by the flames and tens of thousands of people have had to be evacuated in recent weeks. Several hundred fires have been recorded. More than 100 million Americans were affected by an air quality alert in early June due to these fires. Several weeks later, these unprecedented fires have consequences as far as Europe.
