For Thani Mohamed Soilihi, the “Wuambushu” operation aimed to “to show that the Republic is there, that we are doing these things in the rules and not in an illegal way.” The presidential majority senator explains that in the destroyed slums, “persons in an illegal situation” have been “expelled” and For the rest of the inhabitants “everyone is relocated”.

He also notes that illegal immigration has come to a halt with this operation: “There are three times fewer boat arrivals than usual”.
