Former Montreal Alouettes color holder Dahrran Diedrick has died at the age of 44. The club made the announcement on Saturday.
Diedrick was with the Sparrows from 2006 to 2013, winning the Gray Cup in 2009 and 2010. He was also with the Montreal team in 2014. The cause of his death is unknown.
“I won two championships with Dahrran and he was a very important part of our team,” said Anthony Calvillo in an Alouettes press release. He was always in a good mood and got along with everyone in our locker room. He leaves us much too young, I send my best thoughts to his loved ones. »
“Dahrran was a very good friend of mine in the locker room and we kept in touch after football,” said Éric Deslauriers, Diedrick’s former teammate for eight seasons in Montreal. I remember a very physical player when he had the ball, nobody could take it away from him. My thoughts go out to his loved ones and his family, my heart is very heavy at the moment. »
The former 2002 third-round pick lifted the first of his Gray Cups in his 2005 rookie season in Edmonton. He also spent time in the NFL with San Diego, Green Bay and Washington.
In 130 career CFL games he had 872 yards and six touchdowns on 179 carries.
