A whole generation feels like they grew up with him. His beginnings with Jacques Higelin, the phenomenon Telephone, then the solo adventure with the Visitors and then under his own name, and finally the reunion with Aubert and Kolinka in the Insus… Louis Bertignac has been on the road with his guitar for nearly five decades. SO The movie of his lifeit’s a bit like the soundtrack to the lives of many of us.
At nearly 70 years old, would the soft-hearted rocker become nostalgic? Unlike a Renaud who sinks into chronic melancholy and dreams of an eternal return to childhood, Bertignac expresses not having “no regrets”. He adds “this is the movie of my life” and seems happy today as much as he was yesterday.
The clip for the title track of his latest album released on June 2 exudes happiness, both simple and in the whirlwind of rock’n’roll. Some will recognize themselves in the journey of this teenager who had dreams in his head, and who made them come true. Visibly overjoyed at having managed to peacefully combine his family life with his career as an artist, Louis Bertignac keeps his jovial face of a teenager who smiles at existence. Naturally optimistic as he sings in We believe inthe singer-guitarist invites us above all not to waste time, to live now, to take advantage of the present moment, to “go fast before they push the button”.
“Live this day as the last”.
Assuming unfeigned carelessness, Louis Bertignac displays an Epicurean philosophy as he has always advocated during his career. But behind his Carpe Diem way of life also hides the sadness of mourning as he evokes it with tact and tenderness in the very beautiful blue dust. A song where he slips a reference to “wild horses” of the Rolling Stones. Anyone who likes to wear a Jimi Hendrix-style military jacket never fails to cite his influences, whether through a few guitar notes, a phasing effect at the end of It’s OKor the famous white album of the Beatles in The movie of my life.
Even if he happens to “catch the blues” he says in The loosethis good old Louis stays most often in the positive and besides the album ends on Maybe one day, claiming unwavering optimism. Despite the turpitudes of our current world, the film of the life of Louis Bertignac always takes shape with a beautiful horizon. Currently on tour which began on June 9, the singer-guitarist is touring France in the coming months. Don’t wait for them press the button, go see it now. As we can see in the clip of Go fast which incorporates amateur videos filmed at the concert on June 10 in Esquelbecq, it is also the film of our lives.
