According to the Head of State, before resuming the dialogue with Vladimir Putin on the challenges of tomorrow, “Russia must first stop the war, agree to respect international law”.
Emmanuel Macron does not plan any particular initiative to renew the dialogue with Vladimir Putin: “I have no reason to call him today. There is a Ukrainian counter-offensive. The time will come, I hope, for negotiations on Ukrainian terms. On the other hand, if he m call to propose something, I will take it because France has always been a facilitating and mediating power”he says.
Russia’s role in Africa
The President of the Republic considers that “Russia has put itself on its own in a situation which is to no longer respect international law, to become basically one of the only colonial powers of the 21st century by waging a war of empire with its neighbor, Ukraine”. He denounces the role Russia is playing in Africa as the continent faces a twin crisis of climate and poverty: “It is a power to destabilize Africa through private militias who come to predate abuses on civilian populations”explains Emmanuel Macron.
“This has been documented by the United Nations in the Central African Republic through the Wagner militia, says Emmanuel Macron. Russia is not playing a beneficial role for the international community.”
