Tuesday, June 20, Elisabeth Borne came to speak for Brut in an exclusive live. In particular, she reacted to the aggression that occurred recently in Bordeaux and denounced the instrumentalization of the facts.
On June 19, a septuagenarian and her 7-year-old granddaughter were violently attacked in a street in Bordeaux by a 29-year-old man. The scene, filmed from the camera of an intercom, quickly went viral on social networks and was notably taken up by the far right. A shocking video, which did not leave Elisabeth Borne indifferent. “Obviously, the video is very shocking. There must be an investigation, sanctions, but I think we also have to be careful. The family reacted by asking not to use these personal images, which do not have to circulate so widely”. Relatives of the two victims also ask not to draw conclusions before an investigation has taken place. “I think you have to be very careful about that.”, continues Elisabeth Borne.
The exploitation of this video condemned by the Prime Minister
For Élisabeth Borne, exploiting a video without having all the elements is “dangerous”, she adds. “But of course I find it shocking. As when we had the tragedy that occurred in Annecy, some people immediately want to exploit the subject. Obviously, when we have dramatic facts, we have to draw consequences. I remember other times when, especially when Lionel Jospin was a candidate, there was a news item which we saw a posteriori that the way it was told did not correspond to reality. So it’s not new. It can accelerate and I think it’s important that we also take a step back. We can be shocked, but the excitement that ends up putting a news item at the service of an ideological vision, obviously, I can only deplore it”, says Elisabeth Borne.
