(Miami) The judge overseeing the trial of Donald Trump, sued for his negligent handling of state secrets, set the start of his trial on Tuesday for August 14.
The former president, presidential candidate of 2024, is accused of having put the security of the United States in danger by keeping confidential documents after his departure from the White House.
The septuagenarian pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, calling his historic indictment “a heinous abuse of power”.
If the date of this federal trial were to be maintained, it would begin less than ten days before the first debate between Republican candidates, scheduled for August 23 in Wisconsin.
However, it is very common for these dates to be pushed back due to requests from the parties.
Surrounded by investigations, Donald Trump has already been indicted by New York State justice for several accounting frauds in connection with a payment made before the 2016 presidential election to silence an X film actress.
This criminal trial should be organized at the beginning of 2024.
The former tenant of the White House, currently the big favorite in the Republican primaries, has also not finished with legal problems. A Georgia prosecutor is due to announce the outcome of her investigation into his pressure to try to change the 2020 presidential election by September.
