An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale was felt on Friday June 16 in the west of France, from Bordeaux to Rennes. In Cram-Chaban, very close to the epicenter, the inhabitants are still worried, and the schools will remain closed.

The three schools in the Cram-Chaban sector (Charente-Maritime), which represent around 180 children, are closed on Monday June 19. “The consequences vary according to the municipalities. Here, in Cram-Chaban, the 40 children attending kindergarten should be able to return Thursday after the security checks, on the other hand the school of La Laigne (Charente-Maritime) will not reopen”reports journalist Florent Loiseau, in duplex from Cram-Chaban.

Traumatized students

The fifty or so pupils from the La Laigne school will be sent to the Courson school. “Children are traumatized after this earthquake, we are told of nightmares, anxiety attacks”, continues the journalist. The academic inspectorate will therefore set up a support system. Some teachers have lost their homes.
