“The Peace Process”, to the rescue of the couple

The cinema releases of the week with Thierry Fiorile and Matteu Maestracci: “The Peace Process” by Ilan Klipper and “Stars at Noon” by Claire Denis.

In The Peace Process by Ilan Klipper, Marie and Simon are Parisian thirtysomethings, married with two children. He is a teacher, she hosts a radio show, and they have reached this point of no return for certain couples, together for a long time, they no longer support each other: no agreement on the educational principles, nor on the arrangement of the flat, or what they think of their family and friends.

And they almost only express themselves by barking at each other, hence this idea, inspired by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, to write a charter in several articles to try to save their couple, knowing that they still love. Simon is played by Damien Bonnard, and Marie by tornado Camille Chamoux, who also co-wrote the film with Ilan Klipper, with lots of sequences inspired by his own life.

Stars at Noon
by Claire Denis: Grand Prix at Cannes in 2022

A woman, a man, a film chabada in the tropics, Trish, the magnetic Margaret Qualley, is a lost American journalist, without a passport in Nicaragua, in the middle of the high-risk electoral process, she meets an enigmatic Englishman, Daniel , Joe Alwyn.

Love at first sight, carnal relationship amplified by the ambient dampness and the dangerousness of the country. The idyll is disturbed by disturbing supporting roles, a cop from Costa Rica, a CIA agent, formidable Benny Safdie, the love duo, tracked down by spooks, takes a tangent, and sinks into the jungle, without knowing how to get out of the country.

But Nicaragua and its complex political situation are only a backdrop. Claire Denis, an expert in twisted and very eroticized relationships, films troubled characters, not necessarily sympathetic, and above all an actress who bursts the screen.
