A 32-year-old man died after being shot Friday night in Charlemagne, a municipality northeast of Montreal. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has opened an investigation.
The 30-year-old was known to the police, said Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the SQ. His identity was made public in the early afternoon. This is Noel Garcia Frias. He had no criminal record.
He was shot in a vehicle on rue Sainte-Thérèse in Charlemagne around 10 p.m. Friday evening. It is a residential street lined with apartment buildings and a few businesses.
Police officers from the City of Repentigny Police Department first intervened on the scene, before the investigation was transferred to the SQ. A security perimeter has been established in the area.
Mr. Garcia Frias was pronounced dead in hospital.
For the moment, the SQ is talking about an investigation into a suspicious death.
“As for suspects, there are currently no arrests. The investigation is continuing. However, anyone who may have information on this event is asked to contact the Criminal Information Center of the Sûreté du Québec at 1 800-659-4264,” said Sergeant Bernard.
